Daniel Olisa Iweze

Daniel Olisa Iweze is a senior lecturer in the Department of History and International Studies at the University of Benin in Benin City, Nigeria. He holds a doctorate degree in social history from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Bayero University, Kano. Dr. Iweze has won several fellowships, research grants and awards including a fellowship of the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA) in 2013, Individual Research Grant) of the African Peacebuilding Network of the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) in 2017, and a Carnegie Corporation of New York 2019 African Studies Association (ASA) fellowship. He has participated in a number of workshops, including those of the SSRC’s African Peacebuilding Network in 2017, the ASA’s Pipeline for Emerging African Studies Scholar Workshop in Boston in 2019 and the workshop on “Not Paying Taxes: Tax Evasion, Tax Avoidance and Tax Resistance in Historical Perspective” organized by Goethe University in Frankfurt in 2020, among others. His main research interests are in African social and economic history with special interests in various transportation systems, business biographies, insurgency, forced migration, conflict and postconflict studies. He has published a number of articles in reputable scholarly journals and contributed chapters to edited books.
