Oluchi Agbanyim

Oluchi Agbanyim is a master’s student in international affairs at the City University of New York (CUNY). She holds a master’s degree in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law from Ohio Northern University and a Bachelor of Law degree from Abia State University, Nigeria. She has worked and consulted for the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) West Africa, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Westminster Foundation for Democracy, and United States Institute of Peace (USIP). She has written on different issues for the West Africa Insight newsletter and contributed a chapter on election violence and policing to “From Direct Capture to Mandate Protection: Field Experiences From the 2011 Nigerian Election,” both publications of Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD). She is also coresearcher of the “Women’s Political Representation in Nigeria: Why progress is slow and what can be done to fast-track it” (2018), published by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), Nigeria, and the Ford Foundation. Oluchi writes for Echoes Africa magazine, a Pan-African publication with the aim of telling the African story. Her flair for writing spans beyond analytical to creative writing. She is the award-winning playwright of The Mouthpiece, winner of the 2010 National Literary Competition for the Governance and Transparency Fund of DFID by Living Earth Nigeria Foundation.
