Amy Hanser received an International Dissertation Research Fellowship in 2001. She is an associate professor of sociology at the University of British Columbia. She is the author of Service Encounters: Class, Gender, and the Market for Social Distinction in Urban China (Stanford University Press, 2008), and much of her research focuses on Chinese consumers and the organization of markets more broadly.
