However, Steph Hill outlines how social, political, and advertising pressures may be creating a new system of regulation stemming not from governmental sources but from fellow corporate actors.

Steph Hill is a PhD candidate in the Joint Graduate Program in Communication and Culture at Ryerson University. Her research examines corporate political advocacy and strategic communication and its impact on the governance of public interest issues such as content moderation. She is the recipient of the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Doctoral Scholarship.
